HEKS/EPER (www.heks.ch/en), a well-established Swiss NGO, champions the cause of a more humane and just world and a life in dignity. HEKS/EPER combats the causes of hunger, poverty and injustice through its focus on rural community development and access to land. HEKS/EPER is also an internationally recognized humanitarian aid actor, having operations in different regions and countries including: Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, South Sudan, Uganda, Bangladesh and Haiti. It is a member of the ACT Alliance network.
To further develop its work in Humanitarian Aid, HEKS/EPER is looking to recruit a Desk Officer Humanitarian Aid (80-100%) based in Switzerland (Zürich or Lausanne office) by June or upon agreement.
Main tasks:
- Develop HEKS/EPER humanitarian aid programs portfolio both in existing development and humanitarian aid countries and in new ones
- Monitor the humanitarian aid projects
- Fundraise with institutional donors including EU/ECHO, USAID, DFID, etc.
- Supervise humanitarian aid delegates
- Contribute to process optimization, develop tools and innovative approaches
- Advise desk officers from the development cooperation department in humanitarian aid work and support them in project proposal writing
- Train HEKS/EPER field offices and local partners in humanitarian aid work
- Participate in pertinent networks, fundraising, and public relations in Switzerland
Required profile:
- University degree or similar qualification and at least five years of experience in humanitarian aid in the field setting up new operations
- Sound track record in program management (including Human Resources and finance)
- Strong experience in fundraising
- Willingness and flexibility to travel on short notice, sometimes for extended periods in fragile, unsecured contexts
- Fluent in English and German or French (oral and written)
- Strategic, research and analytical skills, including in learning, monitoring and evaluation, and ability to synthesize and communicate information
- Team player, performs under pressure, initiative and pro-active personality
- Able to master the usual IT tools
The Desk Officer reports to the Head of Humanitarian Aid Department.
