For our head office in Hamburg/Germany, we are currently looking for an open- minded and versatile Portfolio Manager (m/f) for Natural Resources Management.
Project Manager/ Portfolio Manager (m/f) for Natural Resources Management (Africa)
The Portfolio Manager will actively participate in the acquisition, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of business opportunities, projects, programs and initiatives of development agencies in the field of natural resources management in Africa. He/she will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle with technical project missions carried out on site (particularly in Central African Region).The Portfolio Manager will have management responsibility for a small team of consultants and will report directly to the Regional Director Africa. He/she will be an integral participant in the portfolio management team of GFA.
Key responsibilities will include:

Leading the acquisition process for new projects, including early market intelligence and research of background information

Preparation of pre-qualifications documents and proposals including selection of experts and partners, preparation of methodologies and financial proposal, fact-finding on site and proposal coordination

Full responsibility for the management of on-going projects and studies (technical and administrative backstopping, budget control on-site and Hamburg-based);

Supervision of project teams

Donor, client partner and expert management

Coordination of the portfolio team in Hamburg

Conducting short term consultancies and technical missions in the field of expertise

Donor, client partner and expert management

Knowledge management and tool development for project implementation;

Supporting the professional development of our Young-Professionals and consultants.
Your profile:
-
Master’s Degree in Agriculture / Forestry / Environmental Sciences / Development Economics or related technical field;
-
At least 7 years of professional experience in international project management, preferably the context of development cooperation and natural resources management and/or agricultural and rural development;
-
Familiarity with the German (GIZ, KfW) and European (EuropeAid) development institutions and a well-founded understanding of the strategies and programmes of relevant donor agencies is an asset;

Working experience in developing countries, preferably West and Central Africa, is an asset;

Leadership skills and experience in managing small teams;
-
Willingness to travel extensively to the countries in the region;

Full proficiency in French and English; working knowledge of German;

Excellent writing and communication skills accompanied by diplomacy

High ability to act under pressure on multiple levels of management and communication
