AFC Agriculture & Finance Consultants (www.afci.de) has been active globally in the field of technical and financial cooperation for 40 years and is currently running more than 80 projects in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Our clients are internationally renowned donors such as KfW, EIB, GIZ, EU, ADB and IFC.
At present, almost 40 staff work at our head office in Bonn, Germany, and more than 350 short and long-term experts are active for us worldwide. The annual turnover of AFC is approx. EUR 22 million (2017).
In the last 15 years, we have continuously expanded from our original fields, agriculture and agribusiness, to include activities in financial sector development. Today, AFC benefits from the close cooperation between both departments.

As part of the continuing expansion of our financial sector development segment, we are looking for a Project Manager/ Consultant, in particular for the following fields:
• Financial Institutions Development (Micro & SME Finance)
• Sustainable Energy Finance
As a Project Manager/ Consultant you will be responsible for the acquisition of new projects and for the implementation of current projects. You will work in our Bonn head office with travel to project regions as part of consulting and backstopping missions.
Your tasks in detail:
- Coordination of project acquisition, including technical offers and the selection of project staff
- Organizing and conducting fact-finding missions as required
- Technical and financial management (backstopping) and monitoring current projects while taking the formal requirements of the contracting organization into account
- Close cooperation with the consortium partners and local partners
- Opportunity to further develop technical expertise via short-term missions in the following areas: financial institutions development, banking regulation and/or sustainable energy finance
- Building and maintaining a professional network with the various donor organizations and the beneficiaries (e.g. banks and microfinance institutions in developing and emerging countries).
- University degree in economics, business administration or similar
- Min 3 years of professional experience in the field of financial sector development
- Min 3 years of professional experience in development cooperation
- Min 3 years of professional experience in the consulting sector and/or in consulting for financial institutions (banks, NBFIs, MFIs, etc.) in the context of development cooperation
- Full working proficiency in English; French or Russian would be an advantage
- Experienced in drafting English texts
- Flexibility, resilience, a self-assured manner as well as excellent communication and presentation skills
- Good planning and organizational skills
