International Long-Term Expert (m/f) for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity (Ethiopia)

AMBERO Consulting Gesellschaft mbH is a Germany Consulting established in October 2003. It is located in Kronberg/ Taunus near Frankfurt. AMBERO operates in the preparation, implementation and monitoring/ evaluation of international development projects as well as in the technical assistance of these projects, including assessments and short-term support missions. Currently AMBERO applies for the below-mentioned BMZ/KfW funded project.

 

Project

The project aims at the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and landscapes in priority protected areas in Ethiopia and the improvement of the livelihood of the local population. There are three key fields of action: (1) Improved infrastructure and equipment in the selected protected areas, (2) Strengthened protected area management in the selected protected areas and (3), Participation of local communities. Expected project start would be AUGUST 2018, duration 36 months, location Addis Abeba.

 

Main Tasks

  • Project management, e.g. oversight of project implementation, financial management of the project etc.;
  • Develop appropriate approaches and guidance for implementing the project, e.g. policy formulation and implementation, development of respective procedures, guidelines and strategies;
  • Coordination and communication with involved stakeholders, cooperation partners, co-financing and co-management partners;
  • Writing inception report, the annual work plans/operational plans and other reports;
  • Supervise and coordinate the procurement of works, goods and consulting services.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Postgraduate university degree in nature conservation management / natural resource management / land use planning or another related fields (e.g. community development and integrated rural development)
  • Good understanding and proven track record in fields such as protected area management (including capacity building and infrastructure development), buffer zone development, integrated rural development, community development, and stakeholder participation, with at least 10 years of practical professional experience in the sector;
  • Work experience as team leader / coordinator in long-term assignments preferably in international donor-funded development projects;
  • Work experience in Africa preferably in east African countries with similar socioeconomic conditions. A track record for work in Ethiopia would be an asset;
  • Strong experience in management and financial administration of development projects, including M&E of project implementation; experience with managing a disposition fund of German Financial Cooperation would be a strong asset;
  • Professional experience with donor-funded projects preferably gained in long-term assignments; specific knowledge of German Financial Cooperation (management procedures, reporting, procurement, etc.) would be a strong asset;
  • Previous work in protected area management (park management) in the eastern African region would be an asset;
  • Excellent English skills.
