Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) is a non-profit foundation. Headquarters is based in Germany while the organization is active worldwide. With the objective of promoting sustainable develop-ment, HRNS implements hands-on projects to improve working and living conditions of farmers and their communities.

The perspective of youth in rural areas is getting increasingly important for the work of our foundation. Sustainable livelihoods depend on the decisions of youth and their leadership in development processes. This is why we are strengthening our efforts of addressing youth within our strategies and operations as an important pillar for meeting our overall vision and objectives in an efficient manner.

We are a diverse and multicultural team of about 250 people, most of them nationals working in the regions. We are seeking a manager for our foundation’s activities in the youth sector (m/f) in Hamburg. Reporting to management, this exciting position provides a variety of opportunities in a global context:

Manager Youth Programs (m/f)


Full-time, permanent


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the process of shaping and refining our Global Youth Strategy consisting of both, direct interventions in project countries and contributions to the implementation efforts of selected partners principally in Germany.
  • Coordinate annual strategic planning and provide coaching to our staff that is responsible for and involved in the implementation of interventions related to youth.
  • Support the implementation of interventions by our selected partners.
  • Manage strategic interventions on youth globally and coordinate the cooperation with our local teams and partners.
  • Assess progress of interventions and provide input to the evaluation of efficiency and impact; facilitate internal joint learning and youth related knowledge management.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system to produce timely reports to project partners and donors.
  • Engage in fundraising and proposal writing addressing donors from the private and public sectors.
  • Develop and maintain relations with relevant government departments, stakeholders and development organizations, assessing opportunities for further project work, scaling-up initiatives, conceptual development and other forms of cooperation.
  • Support youth related communication and dissemination of experiences; participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree in a suited field of expertise.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in youth related projects or programs; experience in field-based interventions in developing countries is an asset.
  • Good understanding of smallholder farming systems and dynamics of community development in rural areas; experience in working within interdisciplinary approaches is an asset.
  • Strong track record in project management.
  • Proven ability to work in a team and coordinate at least subareas of interventions.
  • Self-initiative and strong communication skills; ready to work under pressure.
  • Excellent writing skills in English and German; Spanish, Portuguese, French and other languages are an asset.
  • Intercultural sensitivity and ability to manage diverse needs and demands.
  • Integrity and accountability, commitment, thrive for excellence and respect.
