Employer
Forum Civil Peace Service (forumZFD)
The forumZFD is an umbrella organization providing training and project support in Germany and abroad. It advocates with its members renunciation of violence-based policy, the strengthening of civilian resources in the state and society and democratic participation of all social, ethnic and religious groups. Currently the forumZFD is working with about 100 employees at locations in Germany, the Middle East, the Western Balkans, Ukraine, on the Philippines and in Cambodia. The office in Cologne has about 35 employees, who help shape the project work in Germany and abroad, the work of the Academy of Conflict Transformation as well as undertaking public relations, lobbying and training activities.
Down to the present day, there has been no systematic dealing with the recent (especially Khmer Rouge) history in Cambodia. In addition, the public discourse on the past rarely include the experiences and perceptions of ethnic and religious minorities that already existed before the Khmer Rouge regime. The inadequate knowledge and learning from the past in combination with scarce capacities of non-violent conflict transformation bears a risk of increasing tension, mistrust and division between different communities of Cambodian society.
With its team of Cambodian and international staff, forumZFD has started capacity development activities with selected members of the Khmer majority and different minority groups. The aim is that by providing access to multiple narratives of the Cambodian past, mutual trust, understanding and respect will be built between different communities in Battambang that will contribute to a more inclusive and peaceful Cambodian society as a whole. The activities are implemented from the program office in Phnom Penh as well as a project office in Battambang City.
