HEKS/EPER Swiss Church Aid is the aid organisation of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland and has its headquarters in Zurich/Switzerland. HEKS/EPER works towards a more humane and more equitable world, assisting people and communities to overcome economic, social or humanitarian disparities in order to gain autonomy and to live with dignity both in Switzerland and abroad. Therefore, HEKS/EPER engages in development cooperation, humanitarian aid and church cooperation. HEKS/EPER has its own coordination offices in presently 16 key countries and around 200 projects world-wide. HEKS/EPER is a member of the ACT Alliance.
In the South Caucasus, HEKS/EPER has a strong programme with a focus on rural development and conflict transformation. Overall, the programme currently has 10 projects and operates a regional office in Tbilisi with six staff members and another fourteen staff members in two self-implemented projects.
HEKS/EPER is thus looking to recruit a strong candidate to fulfil the role of
Desk Officer for the South Caucasus programme (60-80%)
Duty station: HEKS/EPER in Switzerland (Zürich or Lausanne office)
Start of employment: As of 1 February 2018, or upon agreement
Main tasks:
- Strategic and thematic leadership for the programme and its development
- Monitoring and administrative supervision of the programme, including finances
- Leadership and supervision of the regional office in Tbilisi
- Active cooperation in pertinent networks, fundraising, and public relations in Switzerland
- Active contribution to the further development of HEKS/EPER’s international division
- Acquisition of additional funding sources (mandates)
Required profile:
- University degree or similar qualification and at least three years of experience in development cooperation
- Multi-year work experience in developing countries, preferably in a post-Soviet context and in the domains of agriculture, private sector development, conflict transformation and strengthening of civil society.
- Sound track record in programme management (including controlling, budgeting and audits)
- Proven experience in acquiring and managing mandates
- Familiarity with the context in the South Caucasus
- Fluent in English and German or French (oral and written), knowledge of Russian is an asset.
- Team player, performs under pressure, initiative and pro-active personality
