The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects internationally on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.
GRC is currently seeking a Project Manager Food Security (m/f).
The project has already started in February 2015 and aims at promoting an integrated soil use and management in the Maritime Region (Préfectures Ave and Zio). By the use of the Farmer Field School approach, women in 40 villages in Ave and Zio are trained to select and test improved seeds and new agricultural techniques. The prevention of and the fight against malnutrition is another focus of activities. In addition to this, the project aims at strengthening the rights and power of beneficiary women by supporting them in obtaining legal documents such as birth certificates of children etc. and by promoting the work of women associations on the local level (so-called ‘mother clubs’).
Duration: Starting December 2016 for 1 year (01.12.2016 - 30.11.2017) with the possibility of extension
Location: Tsévié, Région Maritime, Togo
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Comprehensive project management, including finance and administration responsibilities;
- Close cooperation with the local implementing partner, the Togolese Red Cross (TRC);
- Coordination of activities with the ‘Institut de Conseil et d’Appui Technique (ICAT)’, which is responsible for the implementation of the agricultural component;
- Narrative and financial reporting for both, the GRC and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ);
- Training of TRC staff in general Project Management (PCM, financial administration, donor regulations, procurement procedures, etc.) and Community Action Planning;
- Coordination with all major actors in the region (GIZ, ICAT, Ministries etc.);
- Budget monitoring and financial administration of the project.
Required Skills:
- Profound working experience in the field of Rural Development and Agriculture in the Tropics (preferably in Africa);
- Proven experience in implementing and managing donor funded projects (BMZ experience is an asset);
- Strong project cycle management skills;
- Knowledge of Red Cross/ Red Crescent principles and willingness to adhere to them;
- Assertive, with high intercultural sensitivity;
- Ability to work independently and as a team member;
- Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments;
- Readiness to go on assignment without partner;
- Readiness to work in remote areas;
- Oral and written fluency in French and (preferably) German;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Excellent physical and mental health and ability to complete a thorough medical screening process 'working abroad under specific climate and health conditions'.
GRC offers you a compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the GRC as well as an expatriation allowance during your mission. Depending on the post specific situation we either provide you with an accommodation or a personal allowance to cover your accommodation. In addition to a full insurance package (health insurance for residence abroad, private accident insurance, private liability insurance, luggage insurance) GRC is as well covering a home flight withing a 12-month period of assignment and medical check-ups before and after your mission. Before your assignment you will benefit from a comprehensive training package and receive briefings prior as well as during and after your mission.
