Our profile

Forum Ziviler Friedensdienst e.V. (forumZFD - Forum Civil Peace Service) supports people involved in violent conflicts on the path to peace and strives to help overcome war and violence. forumZFD is currently working with peace consultants in Germany, as well as ten other countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Its Academy for Conflict Transformation offers a learning space for professional, international peace work. Through dialogue events, educational work and campaigns, forumZFD actively advocates for civil peace policy. forumZFD is recognized by the German federal government as a member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium. It finances its work through public and private grants, donations and membership fees.

The forumZFD programme in Ukraine was commenced in 2017 and operates through its programme offices in Kyiv and Odesa. The programme focuses on four interconnected areas: Systemic conflict transformation through tailored organisational capacity development; work towards more inclusive historical remembrance; strengthening of social cohesion; as well as support of sustainable conflict transformation approaches based on trust and cooperation between different civil society actors. Therefore, we work with a broad range of local actors, such as civil society and grassroots organisations, experts, academia, national and local authorities, art community and individuals involved in peace and conflict transformation efforts.


Your tasks and responsibilities

The overall objective of the assignment is to support forumZFD partners, local communities and relevant authorities, as well as other key actors to effectively and sustainably manage and transform local conflicts. As a Project Manager you will be responsible for planning, implementing, impact monitoring and financial controlling of project activities focusing on enabling local communities and relevant institutions to acquire skills in peaceful conflict transformation in Odesa and the neighbouring regions in Ukraine.    

Specific tasks include:

  • In close cooperation with partner organisations conceptualize and implement forumZFD’s project activities in the field of capacity development of local communities and relevant institutions geared towards sustainable conflict transformation at community level;
  • Identify the needs of local communities, relevant institutions and NGOs on local level, including training needs and assist in organising trainings and consultations related to negotiation, dialogue, consensus building, conflict analysis, communication/advocacy, and peacebuilding strategies;
  • Maintain regular communication with communities, local and regional state institutions, local NGOs, as well as national and international experts to ensure their active participation and support of the project's objectives and activities and to strengthen local and regional capacities for dialogue by fostering the exchange of experience and expertise;
  • Frequent visits to local partners to consult in the implementation of project activities;
  • Manage the administrative and financial aspects of the project activities;
  • Fulfil internal standards and procedures for project planning, monitoring, and reporting;
  • Contribute to the further development of the forumZFD programme in Ukraine.

 
Your profile

  • A degree in social sciences, peace and conflict studies, or other relevant discipline and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in applying methods of nonviolent/civil conflict transformation, in a conflict and/or post-conflict setting;
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in conceptualizing/leading conflict and its intersection with good governance activities;
  • Project management experience, coupled with some knowledge of PME methods and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with approaches to addressing “inclusion” issues, including issues affecting women and girls, ethnic minorities, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Experience in designing concepts for and facilitating trainings, workshops and other events involving diverse partners and stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English, including the ability to write high-quality written outputs, good knowledge of Ukrainian and/ or Russian is desirable;
  • Strong intercultural sensitivity and ability to work in a team; strong ability to think strategically and conceptually;
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Ukraine;
  • Driving license and experience;
  • Citizenship of an EU-member country is required for this position.


Our offer

We offer an attractive position with responsibilities for a minimum of two years in a growing organization (preparation courses, followed by at least two years’ work within the project with the option of extension). As the position is based on the German Development Aid Workers Act (EhfG), it is restricted to citizens of the EU. The position is remunerated according to the provisions of this law, including comprehensive social security benefits and financial reintegration assistance upon return. We also offer participation in qualification and professional development courses (among others, at forumZFD’s Academy for Conflict Transformation), a project-based preparation, regular coaching and, where appropriate, participation in a language course.
As a project manager working for forumZFD, you will work within the innovative field of conflict transformation and peacebuilding through contributing your ideas and skills.
