Job description

Since 2011 the Syrian people are suffering from a civil war fought among various oppositional factions and regime forces, in a conflict characterized by growing political complexity, increasing violence and massive human rights violations. The humanitarian situation of the people afflicted with the conflict has rapidly become critical. Particularly those areas controlled by the Syrian opposition suffer from an acute supply crisis. Rudimentary public structures are not able to cope with the dire needs of the population. The aim of the project "Rural Rehabilitation Initiative in Syria" is to strengthen the population's resilience in the agriculture. livelihood and water sector. All measures are remotely managed from Turkey and implemented in Syria by partners, usually Syrian NGOs registered abroad and with staff in Turkey and in Syria

Your tasks

  • Technical, financial and organizational management and further development of the project
  • Budget management, acquisition of new project funds, reporting to the donors
  • Coordination of the consulting services and work of the team as well as coordination with the donors, the other projects of the GIZ Syria Portfolio, the GIZ regional division in the headquarters and with external agencies
  • Planning, Management and Monitoring of the project activities to achieve the project goals
  • Management, technical support and quality assurance of results of national and international project staff Support of professional development.
  • Management and follow-up of ad-hoc consulting services
  • Quality assurance according to the GIZ and donors’ requirements
  • Coordination of all project-related communication, in cooperation with the relevant interfaces in the company, and participation in the GIZ sectoral networks.

Your profile

  • University degree or professional qualification in economics, political sciences or in the agricultural / water sectors
  • Several years of professional experience in the implementation of complex projects in the international cooperation, ideally in the field of rural development in fragile contexts
  • Experience in managing projects in complex settings, ideally in the field of development cooperation including leadership responsibility for national / international personnel; work-experience in the Middle East region provides an advantage
  • Experience with virtual cooperation and remote management
  • Analytical and strategic thinking, high intercultural and communication skills
  • Proven management and networking skills as well as political and intercultural sensitivity
  • Flexibility and tolerance to frustration in a dynamic and complex war context
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English (business fluent) is mandatory, knowledge Arabic is an asset

An expansion of the project activities to northeast Syria with remote control from Erbil/North Iraq is planned.
